FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask most before calling.

How fast can you get here for an emergency?

For active emergencies like no power, a burning smell, or a breaker that will not reset, call first. I will walk you through what to do immediately, including shutting off the main if needed, and get to you as fast as the schedule allows, usually the same day.

What information should I have ready when I call?

Your address, a quick description of what is happening (no power, sparking, tripped breaker, and so on), whether it is affecting the whole house or just one area, and the age of your panel if you know it. That lets me give you a real answer on the phone instead of guessing.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Shannonhouse Electric is licensed and insured, and Duane is trained through NCST Electrical Technology. Every job is done to code and left inspection-ready.

What areas do you serve?

Youngstown, Boardman, Austintown, and Canfield in Ohio, plus New Castle, Ellwood City, Neshannock, and the Shenango, Union, and Wilmington area in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. See the full service area page for details, and call even if your town is not listed, chances are it is still covered.

Do you offer free estimates?

Describe the job through the contact form or over the phone and I will give you a straight answer on what it involves and what it costs before any work is scheduled.

Do you do commercial work?

The focus is residential electrical work: panels, circuits, lighting, outlets, EV charging, and emergency calls. If you have a small commercial job, call and describe it and I will tell you honestly whether it is something I can take on.

How do I know if I need a panel upgrade instead of a repair?

If breakers trip repeatedly, your panel still uses fuses instead of breakers, or you are adding an appliance, addition, or EV charger the panel was not built for, it is usually a panel conversation, not a repair. Call and describe what is happening, and I will tell you which one it actually is.

Do you work with home inspectors or during a home sale?

Yes. If an inspection flagged an electrical issue during a home sale, I can look at it, explain what is actually required, and get it fixed and documented before closing.

Still have a question?
